ISP: The Crucible by Arthur Miller

The Crucible is the most emotionally effective piece of fiction I've read in my entire life. Never before have I been gripped with such emotion while reading a literary work. Genuine anger, stress, and frustration arose as a result of the plight of John Proctor and the victims of the Salem witch trials. Arthur Miller showcases his profound talent by taking two historical persecutions - the witch trials and the McCarthy trials of the 1950s - and drawing powerful parallels that carry political resonance to this day.
